Stanton
Colorado Water Conservation Board
1313 Sherman St
Denver, CO 80203

Dear Mr. Stanton,

This letter is to serve as a final report and assessment of our hail cannon project in the San Luis
Valley for the summer 1998 season.

Our third season has met with the continued success that the previous two seasons have. The hail
C'" o~l~m, which we used to fear, continues to be under some control. This allows us to be more
.!!l'litive with crops and programs with major companies throughout the United States.
":"d':

. would be this past season's trial project with Fresh Express, the largest packaged salad
nation. They are so impressed with our quality lettuce and proven reliability of
.. of hail damage during the entire season) that they are increasing their program in the
," ey significantly.

tinue to provide quality savoy spinach to the major processors on the East Coast and they also
nt on the consistency of supplies without hail damage.

cannon program has allowed us to compete successfully with the major vegetable producing
"'areas of central California and to prove our reliability in providing quality vegetables during the
summer shipping season.

We recognize the need to work closely with our neighbors in the Valley, and to help them understand
the importance of what we are doing. This was obviously brought to light by a complaint registered
this past summer by a resident in proximity to our SSS Farms. We have worked with this person and
other surrounding neighbors to help mitigate any concerns they may have.

In conclusion, this project has helped us in promoting the San Luis Valley as a major, consistent
supplier of fresh vegetables to the entire nation.

If you should have any questions, please contact me at the above address.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
