0,

,-

.

WY 82-3

Attachment A

Guidelines for Coordination of the CSU Steamboat Springs Research Project
with Western Weather Consultants, Inc. Central Mountain Project

1. Whenever CSU will perform an experiment where ice nuclei will be
released from aircraft or ground-based generators, CSU will notify
Western Weather Consultants approximately 12 hours in advance
concerning the location of the generator, the times during which the
release will occur, and the rate at which the seeding material will
be released.

2. CSU will occasionally (3-4 times) perform soundings with the NOAA WP-30
aircraft. These flights will all occur in January 1982. Should CSU
wish to conduct an experiment where they will perform a sounding, CSU
will notify Western Weather Consultants 12 hours in advance. If Western
Weather is planning an operation, each of the groups will determine which
generators might affect the operation, based on predicted wind direction
and speed. Approximately 10 hours prior to the flight, CSU will colla-
borate by phone to decide which of Western's generators should be turned
off during the CSU experiment. Western Weather will then arrange to have
these shut down as soon as possible. As soon as the experiment is
completed, CSU will contact Western Weather so that the generators can
be turned on. If any changes occur in the planning of an experiment,
CSU also will notify Western Weather immediately.
