!

Willow Creek Drainage Weather Modification Program
(1993-94 Water Year)
NAWC Report WM 94-6

1.0 INTRODUCTION

North American Weather Consultants (NAWC) signed an agreement with the
Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District (NCWCD) in August of 1992 to provide
support for a weather modification project over the Willow Creek drainage above Willow
Creek Reservoir, located in north-central Colorado. NA WC obtained a permit to operate
this program for the NCWCD from the Colorado Department of Natural Resources.
NA WC meteorologists that conducted the program were also licensed by this department.
The NCWCD purchased 15 NA WC manufacturedground based silver iodide generators.
NA WC trained NCWCD personnel in the operation and maintenance of these generators
and helped select appropriate sites for these generators. NCWCD personnel installed and
maintained these generators for a program that commenced on November 1, 1992 and
continued through April 30, 1993 (NAWC report WM 93-12). In September of 1993 the
NCWCD requested that NA we again provide support in operating a cloud seeding
program over the Willow Creek drainage during the period of February and March 1994.
Preparations were made in late January for this program and operations began on
February I, 1994. Figure 1.1 provides the location of the project area and the 15 silver
iodide generator sites.

I-I
