<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />SECTION I <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The purpose of this Annual Report on weather modification <br />activities in the Western Kansas Muddy Road Project is to: <br /> <br />- Give a brief description of the project equipment <br />and operational procedures. <br /> <br />- Provide a summary of seeding operations and <br />logistics for the operating period, May 1 through <br />August 31, 1979. <br /> <br />- Provide an inventory of meterological and seeding <br />data which are available for use in later analysis <br />and evaluation of the effort. <br /> <br />Muddy Road V was the fifth consecutive season of airborne <br />cloud seeding for rain augmentation and hail suppression in Western <br />Kansas. The project area was slightly modified in 1979 with the <br />addition of Seward County, the 15th participating county; reference <br />Figure 1. Due to funding limitations, the seeding season was <br />reduced to a 4-month period, May 1 through August 31, 1979. <br /> <br />The previously distributed information booklet entitled <br />"Cloud Seeding in Kansas" gives the historical background of the <br />Western Kansas Groundwater Management District's "Muddy Road" <br />series of rain augmentation and hail suppression operation. <br />Included is a description of the new facilities and equipment which <br />were used in Muddy Road Nand V. <br /> <br />With the help of the Federal grant, the new Muddy Road <br />facility at Lakin Airport, the combined on-top and cloud base seed- <br />ing methods, and the computerized radar, the District has one of <br />the most advanced operational programs for rain augmentation and <br />hail suppression in the United states. <br /> <br />1 <br />
