Rawinsonde Data

Upper air soundings made at the Muddy Road site were
processed by use of the on-site computer. Figure 2 is an example
of a computer generated Skew-T plot. All soundings made during
the Muddy Road V season were stored on computer disk.

C. Hail Model Plot

The CIC hail model calculations were run on each day there
was a potential for convective storms. The model made calcula-
tions of vertical velocity, radar reflectivity, and concentration
and size of hailstones for seeded and natural storm cells. These
models were useful in the assessment of hail potential and in the
prediction of the effects of silver iodide seeding on the various
size storm cells. An example of hail model plots are shown in
Figure 3.

D. Description of Computer Processed Radar Data

The computerized radar provided an on-site capability to
acquire, display, and store storm echoes in either the horizontal
(PPI), or vertical (RHI) planes. The computer gives the operator
the opportunity to select his display map scale, make sector off-
sets and enlargements so that "close looks" at the storm cell
characteristics can be made. Range corrected echo intensity (dbz)
contours can be displayed at selected contour levels.

A unique feature of the system is that previously stored
PPIor RHI maps can be instantly recalled for display. This
feature is particularly useful to the seeding director in following
storm behavior and making timely decisions as to when and where

19
