<br />6.0 SAFEGUARDS AGAINST HAZARDOUS EFFECTS <br /> <br />Although weather modification in itself is not directly <br />hazardous, there are certain precautions whlch should be taken <br />against potential contributing hazards. These are in the area <br />of aircraft flight safety and severe weather, <br /> <br />To assure appropriate and safe operations, the following <br />policies will apply: <br /> <br />a. All pilots will be selected on the basis of their <br />integrity, experience, andairmanship, <br /> <br />b. Prior to commencement of seeding operations, pilots <br />will be given a briefing covering FAA traffic control and <br />coordination procedures as they apply to the project. <br /> <br />c. All aircraft must be certified airworthy in accord- <br />ance with appropriate FAA regulations. <br /> <br />d, The Project Director will attempt to keep pilots <br />informed of storm developments that could present a hazard to <br />them and, where appropriate, he will provide them with navi- <br />gational data needed to avoid hazardous storm developments <br />reflected by his radar data. However, pilots will always be the <br />final authority in all matters pertaining to flying safety, and <br />they may decide not to take off or to terminate any mission at <br />any time they think operations cannot be conducted safely, <br />Pilots will advise the Project Director when they elect not to <br />position themselves as suggested or directed by him for release <br />of seeding materials. <br /> <br />. <br />
