<br />SECTION ill <br /> <br />CHANGES IN PROJECT EQUIPMENT & DESIGN <br /> <br />Additions and changes to project equipment are summarized <br />in this section. More detailed description and photographs of Muddy <br />Road IV and previous facilities are contained in the previously <br />referenced companion booklet "Cloud Seeding in Kansas". <br /> <br />A. New Facilities <br /> <br />Facility expansion for Muddy Road IV consisted of: <br /> <br />1. A complete modern operations building at Lakin <br />Airport provided very comfortable accomodations for the ground and <br />air crews. The building consisted of a radar-computer room, a <br />maintenance room, and an administration/data analysis room. <br /> <br />2. A 3500 foot paved and lighted runway and paved <br />parking ramp. <br /> <br />3. A permanent radar tower and weather proof radome. <br /> <br />B. Equipment <br /> <br />The major items of equipment added were: <br /> <br />1. (2) turbo-charged Piper Navajo seeder aircraft fitted <br />with both cloud-top and cloud-base seeding devices; <br />based at Lakin Airport. <br /> <br />2. (1) T-33 Jet seeder/cloud sampling aircraft, made <br />available by the Kansas Water Resources Board <br />during July and August; based at Garden City. <br /> <br />5 <br />
