<br />SECTION I <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The purpose of this Annual Report on weather modification <br />activities in the Western Kansas Muddy Road Project is to: <br /> <br />- Identify changes in equipment and operational procedures. <br />- Provide a summary of seeding operations and logistics <br />for th~ scheduled period, April 15 through September <br />15, 1978. <br />- Provide an inventory of meteorological and seeding data <br />..--~ --- - - -~-- <br />which are available for use in later analysis and evalua- <br />. tion of the effort. <br />- Provide examples of computer generated radar echo <br />profiles. p-el!lons.tr.ate how the computer _generated data <br />can be uSEldJ~sEIgythe physical characterist!csof <br />seeded storms. <br /> <br />- Provide a summary and analysis of operational activity <br />for use in the refinement of future operating strategy. <br /> <br />Muddy Road IV was the fourth eonsecutive season of airborne <br />cloud seeding for hail suppression and rain augmentation in Western <br />Kansas. As with each of the previous seasons there were significant <br />improvements in equipment and operating procedures. This past <br />season marked the greatest expansion of the Muddy Road facilities <br />and equipment, made possible by contributions from the 13 partici- <br />pating southwest Kansas counties, the Kansas Water Resources Board <br />and a grant of funds allocated through the Federal Drought Relief Act <br />of 1977. <br /> <br />1 <br />
