<br />.. <br /> <br />300 EQUIPMENT & FACILITIES <br /> <br />301 Operations Center <br /> <br />Operations and control activities will be consoli- <br />dated in the project building at Lakin Airport. This building <br />will accomodate the weather radar and communications facilities, <br />as well as weather analysis and project administrative functionso <br />As such, it will be the principal operating location for the <br />Project Director, licensee. <br /> <br />3.2 Seeder Aircraft <br /> <br />Two twin engine aircraft will serve as the primary <br />seeder aircraft for the program, with one single engine aircraft <br />being available for daytime and cloud base seedingo <br /> <br />The aircraft and crew will be based at Lakin and <br />Tribune airports where they will have direct access to the <br />weather observations, forecasts and the project radar obser- <br />vations. The crew will be available for dispatch on short not- <br />ice by the Project Director" provisions will be made to recycle <br />the aircraft from airports at Dodge City, Tribune, and Johnson <br />when weather conditions are not suitable for aircraft recovery <br />at Lakin. The on top aircraft will be equipped with L-Band <br />transponders, weather avoidance radar, DME and the full compli- <br />ment of avionics needed for IFR flighto ' <br /> <br />The single engine aircraft and pilots will be based <br />at Tribune airport, and will be used for cloud base seeding dur- <br />ing daylight hours. It will be equipped with the standard com- <br />pliment of flight instruments and avionics, plus an L-Band <br />transponder 0 <br /> <br />All seeder aircraft will be on "restricted" status <br />and will be certified airworthy under appropriate FAA regulationso <br /> <br />3.3 Seeding Devices <br /> <br />The primary seeder aircraft will be equipped with <br />ejection racks, each having a capacity of 52 WMu-l droppable <br />pyrotechnic cartridges. The Pyrotechnic cartridges will each <br />have a silver iodide content of 25 grams with a burn time of <br />60 seconds. All of the ejected material is consumed in the <br />burn, thereby leaving nothing to fall to the ground. <br /> <br />The cloud base aircraft will be equipped with wing <br />mounted silver iodide generators. These will be the 12-position <br />pyrotechnic flare racks or the Carley type acetone burner. The <br />acetone generators have a dispensing rate of 3 to 5 grams of <br />silver iodide per minute. Pyrotechnic flares will be the 75 <br />gram-5 minute burn time 0 <br />
