Box 58 <br />Durango, Colorado 81301 <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Hjennstad: <br /> <br />This is to advise you that your application for a Colorado Weather Modification Pennit under <br />!l 36-20-112, CRS for the purpose of augmenting snow for enhanced operation ofthe Telluride ski <br />area and for enhancement of runoff for irrigation purposes has been approved with conditions. These <br />conditions have been imposed to mitigate objection~ to a perceived potential: <br />I <br />. increase in damages and deaths from the danger of avalanches <br />. increase in the cost of snow removal from roads and highways <br />. prolonged isolation and additional delays from highway closures <br />. increase in injuries from snow related winter road driving hazards <br />. increase in snowload stress on historical buildings <br />. increase in the hardship of coping with snow by older people <br />. compound impact from the El Nino phenomenon <br />. increase in flood potential from spring snowmelt runoff <br />. loss of revenue from a delay in the beginning of the jeep touring season <br /> <br />We understand that management of the project will be under your direct control. This <br />includes responsibility for day-to-day operations of when, where, and how long to activate the <br />various components of the ground based generator network. <br /> <br />Under the statutes, this pennit is for five years operation extending through the 2001-2002 <br />winter season. You may apply to renew the pennit subject to the pennit renewal requirements of <br />section 36-20-114(2), CRS, and subject to the Colorado Weather Modification Rules and <br />Regulations. A decision to renew the pennit will depend on a review of your operations during the <br />first five years and other data as appropriate. <br /> <br />1 <br />
