<br />SmmARY OF TilE SEASON <br /> <br />During the first half of the winter season (November- <br />January), the long wave ridge position dominated the wea- <br />ther of the western third of the United States. Accord- <br />ingly, precipitation amounts throughout the West, and <br />Colorado in particular, were rather low, as storm periods <br />were few and infrequent. However, during the latter part <br />of the season (January-May) weather patterns changed to <br />allow more frequent storminess. <br /> <br />Precipitation during the three-month operational period <br />was generally associated with deep, upper level cut-off <br />low systems over the Far West. These systems usually af- <br />fected the target area for several days, producing condi- <br />tions conducive to effective weather modification. During <br />these storm periods, one or more surface systems usually <br />affected the central Rockies. Particularly good storm per- <br />iods occurred in early February and March, and again in mid- <br />April. <br /> <br />Page 4 <br />
