.

Application for Weather Modification License

Geoffrey E. Hill
August, 1984

II. Specific qualifications of applicant

C. Methods of expertise and project experience

1. Ground based AgI generators: Applicant was project leader
for a three year (1974-76) research program at USU in which
mountaintop silver iodide generators (3) were used. In
addition, these generators were radio controlled.

2. Airborne AgI seeding: Applicant was project leader for a
four year (1977-80) research program at USU in which acetone
type generators on board an aircraft were used. Detailed
airborne cloud physics and ground based measurements were
made during this program.

3. Balloon-borne cloud seeding: Applicant is project leader
at USU for three years .<1982-84) in this continuing research
program. Both pyrotechnic and acetone based payloads have
been used. Currently the acetone based system is preferred.
Detailed remote sensing (dual frequency microwave radiometer
and Ka-band radar) and other ground based measurements are
made during this research.
