.:l' ,

All aircraft concentrated seeding on the superce11 moving
through Gove which was headed for northeastern Scott county. The
heaviest part of the storm covered much of the eastern half of
Scott county as it moved into north-central Finney being seeded
continuously by all 6 aircraft. The storm collapsed around 12:55
a.m. about 10 miles north of Garden City,

At the time the seeded severe storm was collapsing, there were
smaller severe storms drifting southeasterly through eastern Ford
County necessitating all aircraft moving toward that area. However,
by 1:10 a,m. all flights terminated when it became apparent the
storms were leaving Ford County, north-northeast of Bucklin, arid we
couldn' t get there in time to do any seeding before the storms'were
entirely out of the target area.

AUGUST 14thl15TH-OPERATIONAL DAYSiF6JIi 6 4 :In mld.:'afternoon a
large severe storm in Northwest Kansas moved southeasterly across
Hoxie in Sheridan County the~ into northwest Trego County, over
Colyer, where 2 inch diameter hail and 100 mph winds were recorded.
Separate smaller storms grew west,of the large storm north of Lane
County which were also moving southeast into northern Lane. Two
Cloud base planes scrambled at 7:25 and 7:28 p.m" respectively.
The first plane arriving found no updrafts and continued checking,
whereas, a few minutes later, the second found updrafts and began
seeding for hail at 7:54 p,m'i the other plane joined at 7:56 p.m.
However, updrafts soon became elusive at cloud base and the two
flights were ended at 8:28 p,m. when the cloud top plane, scrambled
earlier, neared the same cloud system. The cloud top plane began
seeding in southeastern Lane at 8: 41 p.m. and continued across
eastern Finney County and further southeast as it passed into
western Ford. Seeding ended there at 9:56 p.m. with intensities
being much weaker prior to it passing out of Ford County.

Meanwhile, an extensive N-S oriented area of thunderstorms and
rainshowers had been moving through eastern Colorado. As it neared
Kansas, it was apparent some severe storms wi thin the area had
collapsed pushing gust fronts strongly "to, the east out of them,
most "noticeable 'was the area just west of Hamil ton county. Two
cloud base planes were' scrambled at 9:19 p,m,i others were
scrambled at 9:34, 9:45 and 9:56 p.m. After a short period of
observing the approaching storm situation in COlorado, the first
two planes to be airborne returned to Kansas to began seeding at
low levels ahead of the system arriving in Kansas; seeding began at
9:55 and 10:05 p.m. working from Coolidge north along the western
Hamilton County line. The aircraft flying in from Scott City began
seeding at 10: 20 p.m. east of Towner in Greeley County working
south along the state/county line.

In the southern part of the line of severe storms, west of
Stanton County, the first plane to begin seeding along the western
boundaries of Morton and Stanton counties started at 10:10 p.m. and
was joined by a second plane at 10:44 p.m. The second plane joining
earlier had been sent to give assistance to the cloud top plane in
Ford County but was diverted back to the line Of storms in eastern
