Extra-Area Storm Surveillance - NWSRadar,
Telefacsimile repeater
Operating Area Storm Data - Project Radar

5.4 Seedability Forecasts - Daily Operating Decisions

Each day seedability forecasts will be prepared by the
Project Director, using the information available from the
sources shown in paragraph 5.3. The criteria described in
paragraphs 5.1 and 5.2 will serve as a guide in making the seed,
no-seed decision.

Normally by 10:30 a.m. (MDT) sufficient data are
available to give a good indication of the weather conditions
that will affect the project area for the ensuing 24 hours. At
this time the seeding plans for the day will be issued to air
crews and maintenance personnel. If seedable conditions are
expected, the crews will be given details about standby status,
seeding strategy, seeding rates and expected duration of the
cloud system. If no seedable clouds are expected, the crews
will be placed on appropriate standby status for recall in the
event unpredicted storms threaten the project area. Figure 2
is a flow-chart of events which take palce on a typical day.

The initial daily operation decisions are made on
the basis of forecast information and cloud model calculations.
While the date inputs are very useful in working out crew
schedules and seeding starategy, they are not the only factors
for making final seeding decisions. For working out the final
seeding strategy, the Project Director, licensee, will also
use real-time observations obtained from the project radar and
pilot reports.

5.5 Coordination With Other Projects

Plans published by the Water and Power Resources Ser-
vice indicate a closing of HIPLEX research in Northwest Kansas.
Every effort will be made to cooperate with them in their re-
search activities if resumed,

,

:
