This involve-
ment and commitment to develop additional firm yield 01
these water rights led to the initiation of a reconnaissance
level Investigation of a reservoir site in South Park early in
1978. In August 1979. an agreement was entered Into with
the City of Aurora to Cooperate on construction of water
storage facUities In Park County. :To this end. Aurora has
commenced construction of Spinney Mountain Reservoir
on the Middle Fork 01 the South Platle River and Thornton
Is completing the site selection process of an additional
reservoir most likely to be located on Tarryall Creek. To
date, Thornton has Informed Park County Planning
Officials and met With the Colorado Department of Natural
Resources to describe the progress on th is project.

The Thornton reservOir is preliminarily sized for ap-
proximately 20,000 acre-feet capacity and will be used
primarily for municipal waterstorage. Secondary benelits
will include recreation and possible hydro-electric power
generation. There is some possibility that other enllties
could also participate In this project as the final design and
sizing has not as yet been completed. To this end, interest
by other parties lor Joint participation will be solicited.

Physical Facts and Figures:
Not Available.

Proposed Sources of Funding:
City 01 Thornton.

For Further Information Contact

Lloyd J.
