For
example. as early as 1905 formeremployeesol the Denver
Power and Irrigation Company filed an application for the
Two Forks Reservoir site. There were other filings made
down through the years_ When Denver created its Public
Utility Commission (a predecessor of the Board of Water
Commissioners), the Commission obtained filings on
behalf of the City lor Two Forks Reservoir. These filings
were made wIth both the Department of Interior lor a
federal right-of-way and with the State Engineer 01
Colorado with respect to water rights_ In 1931. a right-of-
way to utilize lederallands for Two Forks Reservoir was
granted to the CUy by the Department of the Interior. The
Denver Waler Department has decrees for the storage of
both South Platte and Colorado River water in Two Forks
Reservoir

The Water Department and the Water and Power

I

,.... -
L ? ~--
I
I

L

Resources Service (United States Bureau of Reclamation)
have participated in a cooperative effort for the planning
and the construction of the Two Forks Reservoir Project.
This effort culminated in a report entitled, "Upper Soulh
Platte Unil- Field DraftFeasibility Report" dated October
1974. The reservoir would serve to regulate the waters of
the South Platte River and also waters carried totheSouth
Platte Basin from the Board's various projects in the
Colorado River Basin. Under this concept, the reservoir
would serve as a multi-purpose project with municipal
water supply, recreation, and power generation benelits.

Physical Facts and Figures:
Height. length and type of dam: 580 teet high; 1635feet
long: double curvature concrete arch
Storage capacity (A.F.) 01 reservoir: 860.000 acre feet
Shoreline and surface area: 93 miles; 6215 acres
Average annual power generation: 168.000.000Kllowatt
hours
Population to be served: That portion of the population
of the Denver Metropolitan Area as it is to be served by
the Denver Water Department.
Irrigated acres 10 be served: The reservoir will serve
municipal purposes, including urban irrigation.
Estimated cost: $244.000.000 (1974 doffars)
Construction schedule: 12 years to accomplish
construction

Proposed Sources of Funding:

The anticipated sources of fundmg would be from federal
moneys with normal repayment conlracts being for.
mulated with participating entities.
