. SOUTH CANAL . ,. The South Canal branches off from the Dove Creek Canal near PleaRant View, Colorado and extends for 6.9 miles to the south and west. It has an initial capacity of 150 cubic feet per second and a terminal capacity of 106 cubic feet per second and includes turnouts to two pumping plants and three lateral systems. DOLORES TUNNEL The Dolores Tunnel carries water through the DoloreR-San Juan Divide about 2 miles west of the town of Dolores, It replaces the old MVIC Tunnel which has been abandoned and plugged. The maximum capacity of the new tunnel is 520 cubic feet per second. DOLORES CANAL The Dolores Canal begins at the outlet of the Dolores Tunnel and extends 0.6 miles to the south and east, supplying irrigation water to an existing canal system and M&I water to the City of Cortez and Montezuma Water Company. The canal will also carry water to the Towaoc Canal Powerplant. The initial capacity is 520 cubic feet per second, and the terminal capacity is 475 cubic feet per second. TOWAOC CANAL POWERPLANT The Towaoc Canal Powerplant will have a capacity of 12.2 megawatts and will produce an average of 30,318,000 kilowatt-hours annually, A 7R-inch diameter buried pipe penstock will head at a structure on the Dolores Canal and extend 2.2 miles to the southwest to the powerplant. The powerplant will discharge its water into the beginning of the Towaoc Canal. TOWAOC CANAL The Towaoc Canal will begin at the Towaoc Canal Powerplant and extend southward for 45.4 miles to the full-service lands in the Towaoc area. For the first two-thirds of its length the canal will approximately follow the routes of two existing MVIC canals, the Lower Hermana Lateral and the Highline Ditch, which the Towaoc Canal will replace. The canal will be earth-lined for 32.8 miles and .concrete lined for 7.5 miles. It will have an initial capacity of 435 cubic feet per second and a terminal capacity of 86 cubic feet per second, The canal will have dozens of turnouts to Montezuma Valley farmlands, eight turnouts to the Rocky Ford Laterals, and five turnouts to the Towaoc Laterals. TOWAOC M&I PIPELINE The Towaoc M&I Pipeline will begin at the City of Cortez and extend southward 10 miles to near Towaoc. This pipeline will carry 2.9 cubic feet per second of municipal and industrial water to the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservation. 0306 3
