ffSC-
-

AQUATIC WILDLIFE DROUGHT RELATED I~II'ACTS
For the 9/2 1/04 meetin2 of the Water A vailabilitv Task Force

Statc,....ide. the situation remains relatively unchanged. Water flows in streams generally
are at the 75-80% ofoonna1, with sufficient \\later to maintain fish and other aquatic
wildlife populations. At this time there is concern for the Rio Grande, which is very 10\,,',

Reservoir water le\'els remain below average, ranging from 37% to 89% ofnomlal.
With a continuation of less than normal precipitation this winter, reservoir fisheries wil]
continue to be at risk. Currently there are a number of reservoirs that are vcry low,
including Rio Grande, Sanchez, Continental and Santa Maria reservoirs in the San Luis
Valley; John Martin res. . Jackson res., and Prewitt reservoir.

NceSoPah (Sweetwater) Reservoir in the great plains system experienced a fish kill this
summer, but on a brighter note, Two Buttes and John Martin gained water that will allow
them to be stocked with wann water fish later this Fall
