<br />- 8- <br /> <br />. Agricultural Impacts (Jim Miller Dept. of Agr.) - The wind has been bad this year. That <br />wildfire took out 26,000 acres. It was a fuse that fell out of a transformer. Ranchers are already <br />buying hay and supplies are quite low. <br /> <br />FederallState/Local Prol!rams <br />. US Army Corp of Engineers (Marty Timmerwilke & Tom Ryan) - The Corps has programs for <br />flood fighting and flood control, advanced and flood control measures. <br />. FEMA (Dan Carlson) - if there was a disaster then it would go through Homeland Security and <br />the Division of Emergency Management. Federal disasters are declared only after exceeding <br />local capacity. They are partnering with the CWCB for floodplain mapping. <br />. Division of Emergency Management (Marilyn Gaily) The 24 hour number is (303) 279 8855 <br />after hours goes this number goes to dispatch. (720) 852 6600 is the number during normal <br />hours. Department of Local Affairs has 15 field staff that work with local governments. The <br />Stafford Act requires updates Hazard Mitigation Plans. The Flood aspect was done recently and <br />they may update the Drought annex as well. <br />. Colorado mitigation wildfire conference April 23'd hoping this year the flood folks can attend. <br />. "Managing Drought and Water Scarcity in Vulnerable Environments" - There is a meeting <br />announcement and call for papers that was handed out at the meeting. USGS (Bob Jarrett) - The USGS has a program starting in Arizona related to meeting on urban <br />hazard issues related to developed channels and with time vegetation comes in and what are the <br />effects. The USGS has national project to develop new values for the engineering "Mannings n". <br />The USGS has a Drought webpage with 25 key sites in Colorado. Doug Cain - the USGS is <br />starting to put together materials to commemorate the Big Thompson flood. <br />. USBR (Steve Hunter) - Steve Hunter gave an update on the Snow Data Assimilation <br />(SNODAS) project they are working on for the CWCB and Colorado. It's an applied research <br />project and unlike an operational model and should be considered experimental. This project <br />develops snowpack spatial average values and there is an online archive going back 2.5 years. <br />Steve also requested to present to the W A TF at a future meeting about cloud seeding and plans <br />for a basin-wide augmentation program for the seven Colorado River Basin States. <br />. SNODAS for Cloud Seeding Calculations - There are many applications for high-resolution <br />snowpack data. For a recent study Steve took a 10% increase in target areas to determine that <br />there is about 870,000 AF of potential for additional water if enhanced cloud seeding was <br />pursued in the upper basin states of Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. <br />. Senator Wayne Allard's Office (Jeanette Alberg) attended and stated that she appreciates all <br />the work the experts do to keep on top of conditions. <br /> <br />Flood Protection.
