This year....e didn't add any nc\\ sites. but arc \\'orking with
communities anll will hopefully be putting in nco,,, ones this year.

1_..l<r.r.....fI[lIl(llJ...el...~-.:t-l:t-_1

i
~ ,
.
.
I
l .
'"''
,

,

10/16

"'''

11/1'

M'

"'"

,~

~.

.""

.,'"

"""

~..

Colorado Climate Center CSt) (Nolan Ilocskcn) - Nolan showed several graphs of
temperature readings from October through March from stations around the Slate. In general.
there was a December cold wave and then a ..cry wann January through carly February. There
was a short cold wave in February and then it wam1t:d up again,
. On the western slope. at Corte/. and Grand Junction. they didn"t have as warm of\\intcr as other
parts orthe State. As far as climate. we had a statewide extreme warm spell in January. before
the real '\i,lrrn spell that endl.:d Fl.:bruary.
. The Oklahoma & New Mexico drought is shared by the soulh plains orColorndo, The slonn
track carne across Oregon nOI California.
. Nol.1Il is in charge orthe CoCoRas project that has brings in o\"Cr 800 rain gage reports regularly.
Infonnation about it is at http://....ww.cocorahs.orgl

I)i\..isioll of WOlter Resources S\\'SI RCllOrl (Keith V..Il dl'r Horst). Keith reviewed the S\\,'SI report
basin by basin that is posled at http://\Valer.slate.co.uslpubs/swsi.asD.
. South Platte - has 10 years of data in the graphs and it looks good this year. The Soulh Platte
stream gage near Kersey is 82% of average. In winter the plains reservoirs arc tilling; they leave
space and thl.:n in the spring Ihey lOp olT. Mosl orthe reservoirs will Ii II this spring.
. Arkansils - The basin water supplies arc slightly above nonnal and the good numbers arc due 10
high snlcmpack in northern part of the rnain.stem urthe Arkansas. At Portland the cumulative
110w is 170% of average, John Martin Reservoir is 10\\ this year: it eithl.:r has waler or it doesn.!.
For 1100d control it tilled up and did its job. in the 1980s and 1990s. Annuall1uctuations from
winter storage and spring releases so this reservoir experiences large swings.
. Rio Grande. the S\\'SI numbers arc low and it's similar to the 2002 extreme drought. Thl.:re
has been a gradual drop in 110ws since October and this will continue biased on snow in San Juan
J\tountains. The Rio Grandl.: resen'oir is not a major source l.)fwater for a lot of water users: a lot
of water use is biased on direct l10w water rights
. (;unnisnn. UnComl}a~hr{' - The \\aler commissioner down there reports thallhere is not a lot of
IO\~ elevation sno\\pack this :-ear. Gunnison basin resenoirs arc doing wdl. Blue ~lcsa w ill till
this Yl.:ar.
. Colorado ~ it has been \\et in 2006 due to gl.lod snow pack. The Coloradll River near Dotsero is
right above Glclmood canyon and reported 930 cfs: thl.: long-tenn averagc is 94Scfs. Green
~lount.1in and Williams Fork reser\'Oirs arc doing well.
. Yampa/White - right now the water sllppl:- numbers arc good because ofsmmpack.

FJonj PrOlc-l."'!lOn.
