I

I

SECTION III

I

COLORADO'S RESOURCE CONCERNS

I

The sale of agricultural products adds more than $3 billion a year to
Colorado's economy -- twice the amount for mining, and three times the
amount for tourism. The combined production of Colorado's farmers and
ranchers puts the state second behind only California as a western
agricultural stronghold, and fifte~nth in the nation as a whole. Much of
Colorado's cultural heritage and current economic stability stems from the
stability of our agricultural industry.

I

I

However, the future is clouded by the unwelcome prospect of depletion
of the state's natural resources and the consequent impact on agricultural
productivity.

I
I

This chapter discusses the various concerns and quantifies the magni-
tude of the problems. The problem is described, items that can be done to
address the concern are identified, and lastly what SCS can do to meet the
needs is explained. Consequences of not addressing the concern are also
listed.

I

I

I
I
I

I
I

I

I
I

III-l

I
