'11IIIIIIII

preliminary figures, it appears that project costs now may be in
excess of the original appropriation. Thus, the entity ~
anticipates coming to the Board for additional authorization and
funding.

Fuch's Ranch Dam

This project entails the rehabilitation of an existing dam
on U.S. Forest Service property about 20 miles southwest of Del
Norte, Colorado. The State Engineer's office and the U.S. Forest
Service are both concerned about the severe erosion that has
occurred in the unlined earth channel below the spillway for this
dam. This erosion has increased the slide potential on the
hillside above the channel. A Forest Service road traverses the
hillside only a short distance above the area.

A feas ibil i ty study has been submitted by Hydo-Triad, Ltd.
and comments by staff are now being addressed. The proposed
project would move the spillway to the other side of the existing
dam and the existing eroded spillway channel would be filled in.
Cost of the project is estimated to be $80-100,000.

Grand Mesa proiect

The Grand Mesa project was originally studied by the U.S.
Bureau of Reclamation. However, the Grand Mesa Water Conservancy
District applied to the Colorado Water Conservation Board in 1980
requesting state assistance in rescoping and reducing the size of ..
the original federal project. The Board approved funds for the
feasibility study, which has been submitted to the Board staff in
draft form.

The project area extends from the top of Grand Mesa south to
the Gunnison River. The project would involve the construction
of Cactus Park reservoir, a feeder canal system, generation of
hydroelectric power and rehabilitation of existing main and .
secondary canals and laterals. Thus, the project will have
irrigation and hydropower benefits and rural water supply and
recreation components.

Hertha Reservoir Enlargement

The Hertha Reservoir enlargement is addressed in the Home
Supply Watershed study made by the Soil Conservation Service in
1975. Most of the other features of this study in Larimer and
Weld counties--including canal relocation, lining of canals and
laterals, land treatment and control of outlet structures--have
already been constructed in a joint effort between the various
local entities concerned and the Soil Conservation Service.

Under the proposed plan the Hertha Reservoi r, wh ich is
located about 5 miles west of the town of Berthoud, would be
increased in capacity from 986 AF to about 1600 by raising and

-2-
