LUECKE <br />Senior Scientist and Director Environmental Defense Fund, <br />Rocky Mountain Regional Office (Boulder, Colorado) <br /> <br />A graduate of Notre Dame, Dan completed his Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences at Harvard <br />University. He worked as a Senior Environmental Engineer with a Cambridge, Massachusetts <br />Environmental firm and taught at Harvard University's Center for Studies in Education and <br />Development. Dan has served on several advisory committees including the following: Colorado <br />Water Resources Research Institute Advisory Committee on Water Policy Research; Denver <br />Metropolitan Water Roundtable; California Department of Water Resources Technical Advisory <br />Committee on Desalination; Advisor to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United <br />Nations; and EPA Integrated Environmental Management Program Advisory Committee. He cur- <br />rently serves as President of the board of the Colorado Conservation Foundation and the advisory board of the University of <br />Colorado Natural Resources Law Center and he is the past President of the board of the High Country News Foundation. He is also <br />on the advisory boards of the Colorado Journal of International Environmental Law and Policy and the Colorado State University <br />Environment and Natural Resources Institute, and is the chair of the executive committee of the Colorado Environmental Caucus. <br /> <br />PHOTO <br />NOT <br />AVAILABLE <br /> <br />STEVEN O. SIMS <br />First Assistant Attorney General, State of Colorado <br /> <br />Steve Sims is the First Assistant Attorney General supervising the Water Unit of the Colorado <br />Attorney General's Office. The Water Unit represents the State and Division Engineers, the <br />Groundwater Commission, Well Driller's Board, the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the <br />Division of Wildlife, the Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation and a dozen other state agencies <br />with water right issues. Currently the six attorneys in the Water Unit handle over 1000 active cases. <br />Steve has been with the Attorney General's Office since 1989 and has been licensed to practice law <br />in Colorado since 1979. <br /> <br />Steve is lead counsel in the Union Park litigation and has tried over 30 water law cases and has <br />been counsel of record in a number of Colorado Supreme Court appeals including Board of County Commissioners of Arapahoe <br />County v. United States, Thornton v. Bijou, Midway Ranches and Turkey Canon Ranch. He received his B.A, from the University <br />of Colorado in 1975 and his J.D. from the University of Puget Sound in 1979. He is married to Karen Burns and lives in Boulder <br />with his three horses and two German Shepherd dogs. <br /> <br /> <br />ERIC KUHN <br />General Manager, Colorado River Water Conservation District <br />(Glenwood Springs) <br /> <br />Eric earned his BS degree in engineering from the University of New Mexico and a Masters <br />degree in Business Administration from Pcpperdine University in California. <br />He served as an engineer officer aboard nuclear submarines in the U,S. Navy and worked as a <br />nuclear start-up engineer for Bechtel Power Corporation. <br />Eric started employment with the River District in 1981 as Assistant Secretary-Engineer. His <br />responsibilities since then have included technical management of River District activities such as <br />Taylor Draw Dam and Reservoir, Wolford Mountain Reservoir, water marketing, interstate water <br />issues, and integrated project operations. <br />In July 1996 Eric assumed his current duties as General Manager of the Colorado River Water Conservation District. <br />In 1994 he was appointed by Governor Romer to the Colorado Water Conservation Board to represent the Colorado River <br />Mainstream and in 1996 and 1997 served as Chairman of that board. <br />When not addressing issues of the Colorado River, Eric, his wife and two daughters enjoy biking, skiing and hiking as the <br />seasons permit. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />"I, <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />.1l1lll1~I.Il1llllJ <br />
