<br /> <br />~ <br />..... <br />.". <br />. <br />lj;;"..";;'" <br /> <br />J <br />/ <br /> <br /> <br />Trees, Wqter & People <br /> <br />Trees, Water & People (TWP) <br />is a watershed protection group that <br />works throughout Colorado, but that <br />also has integrated local, regional and <br />international programs. <br /> <br />International Programs <br />Internationally, T\VP currently <br />manages watershed protection programs <br />in six countries - Honduras, Guatemala, <br />El Salvador, Nicaragua, Chiapas, <br />Mexico, and Brazil. International <br />projects focus primarily on reforestation, <br />watershed protection, and fuel dlicicnt <br />stoves. T\VP's international programs <br />and tree nurseries support the work of <br />20-30 people in the various countries. <br />depending on the season and particular <br />year. <br /> <br />Regional Programs <br />Regionally, TWP manages a Tribal <br />Lands Alternative Energy Program <br />which provides education about solar <br />energy and installs supplemental solar <br />heating systems for low income tribal <br />families with a currcnt focus on the Pine <br />Ridge Rcservation in South Dakota. <br />We also plant windbreaks and shade <br />trees to cut down on encrgy costs and <br />provide a more livable situation given <br />thc harsh weather in South Dakota. <br />In northern Colorado, wc operate <br />the Community Resource Protection <br />Program. This local program plants <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />... <br /> <br />-- - <br />- -- <br /> <br />trecs, develops outdoor \\.'ctlands <br />science labs for local schools, and <br />generally protects local streams and <br />opcn spaces. \\'e have conducted ovcr <br />120 volunteer events and currently <br />manage three outdoor science labs for <br />the local school system, with two more <br />in the development stage. <br />One of our most significant <br />programs is our Regional \Vatershcd <br />Protection Program. This program has <br />focused on helping watershed groups <br />develop the skills and resources to <br />become more sustainable. <br />For the last five years. T\VP has <br />becn working to support Colorado's <br />watershed groups in numerous ways: <br /> <br />. Provide on-site training and ongoing <br />coaching for watershed groups with <br />a primary focus on fundraising and <br />leadership developmcnt <br /> <br />. Support the Colorado Watershed <br />Assembly (CWA) with staff, intems <br />and financial support <br /> <br />Support for CWA <br />Specific examples of our supp0l1 <br />for C\\'A include: <br /> <br />. T\VP's National Director. Richard <br />Fox, having served the last three <br />years as the President ofC\VA <br /> <br />Trees, Water & <br />People continues <br />to support the CWA <br />with staff. interns and <br />financial support. <br /> <br /> <br />. Establishing and coordinating <br />a volunteer effort to provide <br />professional technical and intern- <br />level support for numerous projects <br />and the CWA annual conference <br /> <br />. Providing supervision. office space. <br />computer. and other equipment and <br />supplies to CWA's staff\Vatershed <br />Coordinator <br /> <br />. Funding staff and \'olunteer <br />expcnses and tra\"c! related to <br />C\VA business <br /> <br />. Managing the Colorado pilot <br />project for the National \\'atershed <br />Hcalth Project. which is pro\"iding <br />sustainability and technical <br />workshops, as well as expanded <br />on.site trainings for individual <br />watcrshed groups <br /> <br />. Coordinating the information <br />gathering, designing and publishing <br />of the annual Stale of Colorado s <br />JVatershedv Report <br /> <br />In addition to its work in <br />Colorado, T\Vr provides assistance <br />to watershed groups in Ne\\' ~'1exico. <br />\Vyoming and Montana. as well as <br />some additional groups throughout <br />the United States. <br />TWP believes that local watershed <br />groups. working collaboratively with <br />local state and federal agencies. have <br />the best chance to efTectively protect <br />our watersheds. our rivers. and other <br />natural resourccs that we depend on <br />for our survival and well-being. <br />
