Education a Common
Priority
No doubt about it -- Colorado's
watershed groups are diverse, with
unique goals and challenges. Yet
education appears to be one thing many
have in common.
According to a 2003 survey
of Colorado Watershed Assembly
members, public educatioll was their
most commonly reported activity
(64 percent of all respondents). Most
respondents indicated that more than
20 percent of their efforts were devoted
to education. Some reported spending
as much as 100 percent of their time to
educate the public.
The survey went on to ask what
resources could make watershed
groups' education efforts easier.
From a list of options, the majority
chose "pre-packaged publications
(reference booklets. summary reports)
for adults." This was followed by
"contact infonnation for speakers" and
"schedules of statewide educational
activities and opportunities to publicize
your own events."

Foundation for \Vater Education
(CFWE) recognizes this special role,

educational mission easier.

Citizen's Guide series provides easy-
to-read desk referenccs on topics such
as water law. water quality, and water
conservation. Free maps of the Statc's
water history and river basins are also
available.

To help keep lIP-to-date on the latest
issues, the Foundation also publishes

also provide a central repository for
upcoming e\'ents held by watershed
groups on our '....ebsite. as well as a
statcwidc calendar of water-related
