. existing system appears to be beyond the bonding capacity of the town
of Meeker with its present population and tax base. Outside assistance
is needed.
CURRENT STATUS
In December of 1973, the town of Meeker submitted an application
to the Colorado Water Conservation Board for state assistance in the
construction of a new municipal water system. Subsequently, the board
entered into a contract with Wright-McLaughlin Engineers to prepare a
feasibility report for a new water system for the town of Meeker. As
a part of the feasibility investigation, a number of various alternatives
were explored by the consulting firm, all of which were presented to
the Meeker town officials for decision.
The feasibility report has now been completed. Because of problems
of water quality and winter freezing conditions, it has been difficult
to arrive at the best course of action. The staff of the state water
board does not entirely concur with the course of action selected by
the Meeker officials, pending the development of further information.
However, it appears that the existing differing opinions can be recon-
ciled within the next few months by further exploratory work and will
not affect the recommended state funding requirements.
PROPOSED PROJECT
Of the various alternative plans presented, the consultant has
recommended and the officials of Meeker have approved a plan involving
a combination of surface diversions and pumping from the valley alluvium.
Under this plan, a well field would be developed along the White River
. about 5 miles upstream from the town of Meeker (area B).
