Both plans provided for <br />the supplemental irrigation of 1,780 acres of land and increased munic- <br />ipal and industrial water supplies in the Craig area. The economic <br />emphasis plan provided for the production of 15,000 kilowatts of base <br />load power. The environmental emphasis plan included a 1,100-acre <br />waterfowl nesting area. <br /> <br />Feasibility studies have not been initiated on the Upper Yampa <br />Project. Both Yampa Projects have been designated as units of the Upper <br />Colorado Resource Study, and are discussed further in Chapter VI. <br /> <br />Non-Federal development proposals <br /> <br />A large number of water development plans have been proposed by <br />non-Federal entities. These proposals are located throughout the study <br />area. There is some duplication of ultimate water use among the plans, <br />and some storage sites are considered by more than one proponent. The <br />total proposed water supply of all of the plans is several times in <br />excess of the total flow of the White and Yampa Rivers. <br /> <br />Most of the proposals that have been identified in the White River <br />Basin are to provide water for use by the oil shale industry. The water <br />would mostly be used for retorting and processing, but some would be <br />available for municipal demands created by the industry. Some of the <br />White River plans include provisions for power production and irri- <br />gation. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The plans proposed in the Yampa River Basin are more diversified. <br />Generation of electrical energy seems to be the principal purpose. <br />There are several proposals for hydroelectric generation and some to <br />supply water for coal-fired steam generation. There are also provisions <br />in some plans for municipal use, irrigation, and recreation. The non- <br />Federal proposals that have come to the attention of the Bureau of <br />Reclamation and the planning team are briefly discussed with the Federal <br />proposals in Chapter VI. <br /> <br />, <br />~-...; <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />9 <br />
