1.0 Getting Started

1.2 Installation

1.2.1 Roles & Responsibility

The SGI SPWRMS application is distributed to SEa machines via
FTP, FTP is a UNIX file transfer utility which allows the application
to be moved from the CADSWES development environment to the
SEa Unix workstations. The installation procedure will be managed
by CADSWES throughout the contract maintenance agreement.
Once SEa takes over support for the SPWRMS application, installa-
tion will be managed by SEa using technical documentation pro-
vided by CADSWES ill the form of a Programmers Manual.

1.2.2 Software Requirements

The SGI SPWRMS application relies on access to the South Platte
Informix database, This access may be direct to the dalJlbase engine
Informix Online or may be client access via Informix INET,

SGI-SPWRMS has been developed using the MOTif graphical inter-
face library. This development path does not restrict the SGI user to
running the Motif Window Manager, however, since MOTifis based on
the X-graphics protocol, the window manager used for running the
SGI SPWRMS application must be X-Windows comp'iant.

Although SGI-SPWRMS displays maps which are in binary Arc/Info
format, the Arc/Info GIS product is not required for running the
SPWRMS application. The display and management of spatial data is
handled entirely by the SPWRMS application.

1.2.3 User Setup

The only requirement for setting up a UNIX user to run the
SPWRMS application is to add the location of the SPWRMS execut-
able to the user's path. The best way to set the path is to modify the
user's,cshrc file to include:

set path = ($path /usr/projectls_platte/bin)

In this example /usr/projectls_platte is the installation location for the
SPWRMS application, Of course, the path should reflect the actual
installation location. This example assumes that the user is running
the c-shell, If another UNIX shell is used, the syntax for setting the
path may vary,

7/'J"l/OA

~
