<br />1.0 CWCB Overview <br /> <br />1.1 Mission <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />The Colorado Water Conservation Board was created by the Legislature in 1937 "for <br />the purpose of aiding in the protection and development of the waters of the state, for <br />the benefit of the present and future inhabitants of the state." [37-60-102, CRS] <br /> <br />The duty of the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) is "to promote the <br />conservation of the waters of the state of Colorado in order to secure the greatest <br />utilization of such waters and the utmost prevention offloods." [37-60-106(1), CRS] <br /> <br />The Colorado Water Conservation Board is a Type 1 agency within the Department <br />of Natural Resources, The CWCB consists of fifteen members. The Governor appoints <br />eight members from the state's major river basins and one member from the City and <br />County of Denver. All of the appointees are subject to Senate confirmation and serve <br />thrf:e-~ear...terms-.Ihe...Executiye.J)irector...oLthe.J)epartmenLof..NaturaLResourcesis "n <br />ex-officio, voting member. The Director of the CWCB, State Engineer, Attorney <br />General, the Commissioner of the Agriculture Department, and the Director of the <br />Division of Wildlife are ex-officio, non-voting members. <br /> <br />1.2 Board Composition <br /> <br />To the extent possible, appointments to the Board include persons experienced in <br />water resource management, water project financing, engineering, planning, development <br />of water projects, water law, and irrigated farming, or ranching.
