.

.

.

The consultants have studied five alternatives that include

various solutions to the town's water system problems. Their

recommendations are as shown below:

PROPOSED PROJECT
In the proposed project, the consultants are recommending

improvements of the distribution system by installing 6-inch and

8-inch diameter PVC water lines, gate valves, fire hydrants, and

universal metering in the town. The recommendations also include

a treatment plant, intake structures, a storage tank, a pressure

reduction station, and transmission pipelines.

The estimated cost of the project is $850,000.
RECOMMENDATION AND PRIORITY

The residents of Ridgway are currently faced with water

shortages during the winter when freezing occurs and also during

the early spring when there is a lot of turbidity in the water.

Ridgway has very limited financial resources, and the town can

participate very little in the necessary financing of the project.

Ridgway has contacted the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) for

financing. However, the last offer made by the FmHA, under their

drought fund program, was turned down by the town. The reason was

that Ridgway could not afford the loan amount, and there was not

enough money left from the Four Corners Regional Commission (FCRC)

to increase the grant money made available from the FmHA.

.

-3-
