A small dam which has been washed out
for many years, had been constructed at th Is site in the
early 1900's, The City of Fort Colli~s acquired the storage
right of 530 acre feet inthis reservoir in the early 4950's. As
the water demands continue to grow for Fort Collins,
additional storage capacity will be required, It is presently
contemplated that the Sheep Creek Dam will be rebuilt
and quite possibly enlarged to store approximately 4.000
acre feet. The proposed reservoir would provide ad-
ditional storage capacity to capture water under its
storage decree as well as by exchange with other rights.
The project site was included in a recently proposed

wilderness area; however, it appears that the site will be
excluded from designation.

Physical Facts and Figures:

Height. length and type of dam: Height 100 ft.; length
1,000 feet; earth emben kment

Storage capacity (A,f,) of reservoir: 4,000 acre feet

Shoreline and surface area: Shoreline - 2.0 m!, Surface
Area - 100 acres

Average annual power generation: NI A

Population to be served: 16.000 (in addition to 80,000
now served by Fort Collins)

Irrigated acres to be served: NI A

Estimated cost: $6,000,000 (1980)

Construction schedu Ie: To be determined by conditions
,
Proposed Sources of Funding: "~~1,$

Sale of municipal bonds with repayment from Water Utility
revenues.

For Further InformaUon Contact

Roger E, Krempel; Director
Public Works and Water Utilities
P,O.
