There are 22 owners irrigating 1410 acres
adjacent to a 7 mile portion of the Florida Canal, which acreage
is the subject of the proposed project.

Problem

The rolling topography in the area is not conducive to land
leveling practices and conventional irrigation by canal and
ditches is very inefficient. The present irrigation system has
very high maintenance costs and the irrigators who are using
sprinkler systems have high pumping costs.

Feasibility Study

A feasibility study was prepared on this project by the
u.S. Soil Conservation Service as a part of its San Juan RC&D
plan. Supplemental information was asked for and received by the
CWCS staff in order to bring the aforementioned study into
compliance with the CWCB guidelines.

Proposed Project

This project calls for the installation of an inlet
structure and 4.2 miles of gravity pressure pipeline. When
completed this project would allow the irrigators to convert to
sprinkler systems, increase irrigation efficiencies, and reduce
annual maintenance and pumping costs significantly. The total
estimated project cost is $700,000.

721
fl/ir
