<br />9 <br /> <br />DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE <br />OF THE ,COLORADO WATER <br />CONSERVA TION BOARD <br />CONSTRUCTION FUND <br /> <br />Description of the Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board . <br /> <br />The Colorado Water Conservation Board is within the Department of Natural <br />Resources. The Board is the State's primary water policy and planning agency. <br />The activities of the Board include: <br /> <br />· Protecting the State's interests in interstate water issues. <br /> <br />· Evaluating and overseeing state-financed water projects. <br /> <br />· Working with federal agencies to develop water projects. <br /> <br />· Assisting local governments with floodplain mapping, <br /> <br />· Managing the State's program for protecting instream flows and natural <br />lake levels, <br /> <br />· Encouraging water use efficiency and conservation. <br /> <br />· Providing a forum for the evaluation of water resource conflicts among <br />Colorado communities. <br /> <br />Organization <br /> <br />The Board's policies are set by a governing <br />body of 14 members. Nine Board members <br />are appointed by the Governor with the <br />consent of the Senate. Members are selected <br />geographically to represent different water <br />basins. There are five ex officio members of the Board: the executive director <br /> <br />Board members are selected <br />geographically to represent <br />different water basins. <br />
