Overview and Mission

The Colorado Water Conservation Soard (CWCS) was created in 1937 for the purpose of
aiding in the protection and development of the waters of the state. The Mission Statement of
the CWCS is:

Conserve, Develop, Protect and Manage Colorado's
Water for Present and Future Generations

BOARD COMPOSITION:

· 9 geographic appointees (3 year terms)
· DNR Executive Director
· Commissioner of Agriculture

. Attorney General
. Division of Wildlife Director
. CWCS Director

MAJOR PROGRAMS:

. Water Supply Protection (9 FTEs)
. Flood protection (5 FTEs)
. Water Supply Planning and Finance (6 FTEs)
. Stream and Lake Protection (7 FTEs)
. Conservation and Drought Planning (2.5 FTEs)
