Town of Lyons - Diversion Dam Rehabilitation and Pipeline

The purpose of the project is to rebuild the Town's existing diversion on North St. Vrain Creek,
about 3 miles above town. The Town's existing diversion was built around the turn of the century,
and is nearly disintegrated. It is necessary to line the diversion with plastic sheeting during the
winter months to divert low flows to the Town's drinking water supply. In this condition, the
diversion is subject to being completely destroyed during floods, There is no existing raw water
storage below the diversion to supply the town in an emergency.

The new intake structure, consisting of a diversion dam, presedimentation basin, inlet gate, and high
water protection barrier, will be built at the location of the existing intak.: structure. The raw water
pipeline from the diversion to the water treatment plant was installed in the last 20 years, and is in
good condition. The proposed project will maintain the current capacity of 3.6 CFS, with an ability
to supply up to 7 acre feel of water per day.

The residents of the town voted on November 7, 1995 to approve an Amendment # I ballot question
to enable the Town to contract for a loan with the CWCB. The Town of Lyons has a separate water
enterprise which receives revenues from its water customers.
