.

.

.

CURRENT STATUS

On January 23, 1975, the town of Dove Creek submitted an
to the Colorado Water Conservation Board for state assistance

applieation
,

in the

construction of improvements to its existing systems. Subsequently,
Morcan Engineering Company was authorized to prepare a feasibility report
to evaluate possible methods of providing an adequate water supply to
the town of Dove Creek and the surrounding rural area. The Dolores
Water Conservany District has assisted with this investigation.
Various federal agencies have also been contacted to explore the
possibility of grant funds from federal sources. It will be at least
five years before an additional raw water supply can be made available
from the Dolores Project, but even then a treatment and transmission
system is not a part of the project.

PROPOSED PROJECT

The proposed project involves the construction of a water filter
and treatment plant within or immediately adjacent to the town of Dove
Creek, along with a small holding ~eservoir of approximately 100 acre-
feet. Until such time as the Dolo~es Project becomes a reality, the
holding reservoir would be filled bj off-season pumping from the Dolores
River and through interception of limited surface runoff in the Dove
Creek area. Transmission lines would be constructed easterly to serve
the rural population. All these facilities will be required in any
event to take advantage of the proposed water supply from the Dolores
Project.
Until water from the Dolores Project becomes available, pumping
from the Dolores River would continue on an off-season basis and the
. water from that operation would be stored in a small holding reservoir.

-3-
