Pipe laterals from the Dry Side Canal to the farms will be
constructed to provide pressure for sprinkler irrigation. Pressure for
sprinkling will be developed by gravity on most of the laterals. A total of
42,800 acres of agricultural land, some of which presently have a limited
supply of water, will be irrigated with the project.

Yater will also be diverted out of the canal into the La Plata River for
re-diversion further downstream. Southern Ute Inlet, an interim irrigation
canal and Phase I feature only, will convey water diverted from the La Plata
River by the Southern Ute Diversion Dam to irrigation lands in New Mexico.

Municipal and industrial water will be provided in Colorado and New Mexico
including the City of Durango. Rural areas in Colorado, such as subdivisions
west of Durango and the rural La Plata River area will also receive M&I water.
New Mexico entities utilizing M&I water include Farmington, Bloomfield, Aztec
and part of the Navajo Nation near Shiprock.

At Ridges Basin Reservoir recreation will be developed to help meet the needs
of the people of the 4 Corners region. Plans for recreational facilities
include boating and water skiing, fishing in a lake well-stocked with game
fish, and camping and picnicking.

Supplement to the 1980 Final Environmental Statement

On February 25, 1992, the Sierra Legal Defense Fund et al., filed suit against
the Bureau of Reclamation contesting the initiation of project construction
granted by the Commissioner in October, 1991. The suit is based on
environmental and economic aspects of the project that the plaintiffs desired
to see addressed prior to the start of construction. On April 16, 1992, the
Bureau of Reclamation announced its intentions to prepare a Supplement to the
1980 Final Environmental Statement. The Supplement will be completed by May 1,
1993. Reclamation has also filed a motion to dismiss the suit which will be
acted upon by the court on July 10, 1992.

Archaeological Program

On June 8, 1992, a $7.74 million archaeological contract was awarded to the
Northern Arizona University. Archaeological work is scheduled to commence in
August, 1992.
