;

.

.

.

COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
823 state centennial Building
l3l3 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203

October 1978

LARKSPUR PROJECT

INTRODUCTION

The unincorporated community of Larkspur is located in Douglas

County, approximately lO miles south of Castle Rock on Interstate
Highway 25. The present population of the area is estimated at

about l50 people.

Douglas County has experienced a very rapid increase in
population since the 1960's with the development of many rural
subdivi~1ons for housing. Basic industry in the county is fairly
limited, and many of the new residents commute daily to jobs out-

side the immediate area.

New development in the Larkspur area is reflected in the Perry

Park Water and Sanitation District, located immediately north of

Larkspur, and in the construction of a number of homes south of

Larkspur. The area is very attractive, forested, mountainous

country and additional development is quite likely.
Water supply for all the present residents is obtained from

individual shallow wells--some, in fact, no more than springs.

The individual supplies receive no treatment.

PROBLEM

Problems with the existing system are:

l. The existing shallow wells are unreliable and some
. "dry up" each summer.
