...---

\

..~

.

COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
823 State Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203

February, 1979
(Revised December, 1979)

BEAVER PARK PROJECT

INTRODUCTION

The Beaver Park project is located in Fremont County, about 15

miles east of Canyon City and about 40 miles southwest of Colorado

Springs. There are approximately 360 shareholders in the Beaver Park

Water, Inc., in the Beaver Park area. The company supplies irrigation

water to the farmers in the area and domestic water co the Penrose

community.

Fremont County has experienced a population increase from 20,000

in 1970 to about 32,000 in 1978. It is assumed that the Beaver Park

area had a similar percentage of population increase.

The basic products produced in the Beaver Park area are avples,

cherries, vegetables, grapes, and some hay. Since, however, not

enough money can be assured through farming, most of the residents are

part-time farmers, augmenting their income by working in cities like

Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Canyon City. However. most of the

residents would rather farm full time if it were profitable enough for

them.

. Water is obtained from Beaver Creek, which runs through the area,
