The PRPA system peak demand of <br />approximately 250 MW can occur in winter or summer. <br /> <br />1.3.5 Public Service Company of Colorado <br /> <br />As the state's largest electrical supplier, Public Service Company of Colorado (PSCO) <br />serves more than 967,000 customers throughout the state. PSCO is an investor- <br />owned utility with a peak demand of more than 3,200 MW. With more than 6,400 <br />employees, PSCO is also one of the state's largest employers. <br /> <br />1.3.6 Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association <br /> <br />Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. (Tri-State) is a rural electric <br />association that provides power to 25 member cooperative systems and public power <br />districts in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska. Tri-State owns approximately 600 MW <br />of coal-fired thermal capacity and 300 MW of combustion turbine capacity. It serves <br />about 85,000 customers in Colorado and has a peak summer electrical demand of <br />about 1,000 MW for the three-state area. <br /> <br />1.3.7 U.S. Bureau of Reclamation <br /> <br />The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) is a federal agency in the Department of the <br />Interior that has been responsible for the construction of more than 500 water projects <br />in the western United States. The USBR has 52 power plants in operation with an <br />installed capacity of 13,500 MW. In Colorado, the USBR has approximately 660 MW <br />of installed capacity at 12 separate facilities. The Western Area Power Administration <br />and the Bonneville Power Administration market all excess energy produced by USBR <br />power plants. <br /> <br />1.3.8 Western Area Power Administration <br /> <br />As an agency within the Department of Energy, the Western Area Power <br />Administration (Western) is responsible for marketing and transmission of power <br />generated at 50 hydropower plants and one thermal plant in 15 western states. In <br />Colorado, Western markets capacity and energy from the USBR's 660 MW of installed <br />hydro capacity. <br /> <br />1-4 <br />
