<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD <br />823 State Centennial Building <br />1313 Sherman Street <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br /> <br />November 1981 <br /> <br />BEEMAN-MEADOW ISLAND NO. 2 DIVERSION DAM <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Beeman-Meadow Island No.2 Diversion Dam is located on <br /> <br />the South Platte River approximately 3 miles southwest of <br /> <br /> <br />Platteville, Colorado.' This dam diverts about 11,000 acre-feet <br /> <br />of water annually to 3,547 acres of farm land owned by.the Beeman <br /> <br />Irrigation Ditch and Milling Company and the Meadow-Island Ditch <br /> <br />Company No.2. <br /> <br />PROBLEM <br /> <br />The existing diversion dam was built of wood in the 1880's <br /> <br />It has deteriorated to the point that it could collapse when as <br /> <br />little as a 5-year frequency flow occurred in the South Platte <br /> <br />River. Loss of this dam would force the irrigators to use well <br /> <br />water for their supply. It is est imated that the use of well <br /> <br />water would increase the cost of irrigation by approximately $50 <br /> <br />per acre. Furthermore, 20 percent of the land currently <br />
