Appendix F. Irrigation Guidelines INTRODUCTION h is the intenl of the 1-25 Task Force to encourage water conservation through the use of Xeriscape planting techniques and through use 01 state 01 the art irrigation methods, Water usage within Ihe corridor is to be limited to 10-12 inches of addition- al water per year. II is understood that during ger- mination and plant establishment periods addition- al water will be needed. Because 01 this limitation on the amount 01 additional water avaitable, it is important that irrigation design, installation and system management be a top priority, IRRIGATION SPECIFICATIONS The formal version of these specifications will be available Fall 1988, Final irrigation plans and specifications shall be prepared and signed by a Certified Irrigation Designer (Commercial certilica- tion as certified by The Irrigation Association, 1911 N, Ft. Myer Dr" Suite 1009, Arlington, VA 22209, ) A. Planning the System: 1. Planning is a separate process Irom designing 2. Planning - an information gathering phase 3. Information which must be gathered during- planning phase: a. Available water resources b, Available site utilities c, landscape planting plans d, Hardscape plans e. Grading plan I. Site usage g, Soil characteristics h, Product type prelerences i. Irrigation til)'le constraints j, Project budget k, Project phasing I. level 01 commitment to system management m, Environmental conditions affecting plant watering requirements 4. Velocities shall not exceed five leet per second lor plastic pipe 5, When possible, system design takes into account that highway medians and slope areas may be removed with the addition of luture lanes 6. Control systems: a, Remote control valves, flow meters, pres- sure sensors, and moisture sensors shall be linked by hardwire to controllers b, Controller location should be dictated by ac- cessibility, aesthetics and salety c, Satellite controllers will be linked to a central computer per CDOH District requirements B. Minimum Plan Requirements: All final drawings and other supplemental data shall be submihed by the consullant aher final re- view. Material to be a part 01 the final construction contract plans shall comply with the following re- quirements: 1, The drawings shall be size D drawings; that is, the sheets will measure 22 inches by 34 inches with a rectangular border 01 20 inches by 31 1/2 inches for the working drawings 2, The drawings shall be full transparencies: i,e. vellum, mylar or linen with no paste-ons or background Irom paste-one in second gener- ation transparencies 3. There shall be no excessive screening on drawlnge. Screening, when required, ehall be accomplished by a 50% screen with a .. maximum 50 lines per inch 4. AJlthe drafting work shall be on one side 01 the drawlnge 5. Drawings with colors shall be reproducible by all prlnllng medias in black and white 6. Drawings shall not consist of sepias 7. All data (lines and lehering) on drawings shall be opaque 8. Components accurately symbollld and keyed 9. legible print size when plan reduction is anticipated Drawings that do not meetlhe criteria listed above will not be accepted by the State and will be re- turned to the consullanl. Plans and specifications used shall comply with the standards specified In U.S. Department 01 Transportation, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Federal-aid Highway Program Manual (FHPM) Volume 6, Cahpter 3, Section 3, Subsec- tion 1, Appendix.
