Irrigation Guidelines <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />h is the intenl of the 1-25 Task Force to encourage <br />water conservation through the use of Xeriscape <br />planting techniques and through use 01 state 01 <br />the art irrigation methods, Water usage within Ihe <br />corridor is to be limited to 10-12 inches of addition- <br />al water per year. II is understood that during ger- <br />mination and plant establishment periods addition- <br />al water will be needed. Because 01 this limitation <br />on the amount 01 additional water avaitable, it is <br />important that irrigation design, installation and <br />system management be a top priority, <br /> <br />IRRIGATION SPECIFICATIONS <br /> <br />The formal version of these specifications will be <br />available Fall 1988, Final irrigation plans and <br />specifications shall be prepared and signed by a <br />Certified Irrigation Designer (Commercial certilica- <br />tion as certified by The Irrigation Association, <br />1911 N, Ft. Myer Dr" Suite 1009, Arlington, VA <br />22209, ) <br /> <br />A. Planning the System: <br /> <br />1. Planning is a separate process Irom <br />designing <br />2. Planning - an information gathering phase <br />3. Information which must be gathered during- <br />planning phase: <br />a. Available water resources <br />b, Available site utilities <br />c, landscape planting plans <br />d, Hardscape plans <br />e. Grading plan <br />I. Site usage <br />g, Soil characteristics <br /> <br />h, Product type prelerences <br />i. Irrigation til)'le constraints <br />j, Project budget <br />k, Project phasing <br />I. level 01 commitment to system <br />management <br />m, Environmental conditions affecting <br />plant watering requirements <br /> <br />4. Velocities shall not exceed five leet per <br />second lor plastic pipe <br /> <br />5, When possible, system design takes into <br />account that highway medians and slope <br />areas may be removed with the addition of <br />luture lanes <br /> <br />6. Control systems: <br />a, Remote control valves, flow meters, pres- <br />sure sensors, and moisture sensors shall be <br />linked by hardwire to controllers <br />b, Controller location should be dictated by ac- <br />cessibility, aesthetics and salety <br />c, Satellite controllers will be linked to a central <br />computer per CDOH District requirements <br /> <br />B. Minimum Plan Requirements: <br /> <br />All final drawings and other supplemental data <br />shall be submihed by the consullant aher final re- <br />view. Material to be a part 01 the final construction <br />contract plans shall comply with the following re- <br />quirements: <br />1, The drawings shall be size D drawings; that <br />is, the sheets will measure 22 inches by 34 <br />inches with a rectangular border 01 20 inches <br />by 31 1/2 inches for the working drawings <br />2, The drawings shall be full transparencies: i,e. <br />vellum, mylar or linen with no paste-ons or <br /> <br />background Irom paste-one in second gener- <br />ation transparencies <br />3. There shall be no excessive screening on <br />drawlnge. Screening, when required, ehall be <br />accomplished by a 50% screen with a .. <br />maximum 50 lines per inch <br />4. AJlthe drafting work shall be on one side 01 the <br />drawlnge <br />5. Drawings with colors shall be reproducible by <br />all prlnllng medias in black and white <br />6. Drawings shall not consist of sepias <br />7. All data (lines and lehering) on drawings shall <br />be opaque <br />8. Components accurately symbollld and keyed <br />9. legible print size when plan reduction is <br />anticipated <br /> <br />Drawings that do not meetlhe criteria listed above <br />will not be accepted by the State and will be re- <br />turned to the consullanl. <br /> <br />Plans and specifications used shall comply with <br />the standards specified In U.S. Department 01 <br />Transportation, Federal Highway Administration <br />(FHWA) Federal-aid Highway Program Manual <br />(FHPM) Volume 6, Cahpter 3, Section 3, Subsec- <br />tion 1, Appendix. <br /> <br />C.
