At this
time, the District is not considering any type of low-flow retrofit fixture program;
however, this option may be considered in the future.

5.2 Low Water-Use Landscape and Efficient Irrigation

5.2.1 Current L TWD Measures

The Little Thompson Water District currently does not require the use of low water use
landscaping or water efficient irrigation. The District does encourage and promote the
use of efficient irrigation by asking the District customers to participate in a voluntary
odd/even day watering plan. The L TWD has been using the newsletter format to
promote efficient irrigation with water conservation tips. The District also recommends
the use of low flow heads in lawn sprinkler systems.

5.2.2 Plans for Future L TWD Measures

The Little Thompson Water District will continue to encourage the use of efficient
irrigation through upcoming newsletters and bill inserts promoting low water use
landscaping and efficient irrigation. The District may also consider implementing a
mandatory odd/even watering plan.

I
I
I
I
1
I
I
I
I

5.3 Water-Efficient Industrial and Commercial Water-Using
Processes

5.3.1 Current L TWD Measures

The Little Thompson Water District is a fairly rural district with only a few commercial
and industri::ll r.ustnmArs (Tl'lble 5-2}:-oo!jL2.W~of commercial taps useEl--S.S% of the
water billed to customers in 1994. One influence of the rural setting is that the District
does provide water to several dairies and feedlots. These customers account for less
than 1 % of the District's taps, but consumed 14.6% of the delivered water in 1994.
Both of these agricultural industries require large amounts of water, with the average
dairy cow utilizing 25 gallons of water per day and the average feedlot cow requiring 15
gallons of water per day. The Little Thompson Water District has not restricted the use
of treated drinking water in these rural industries.

The larger dairies have been very efficient in using the water that is delivered through
the District's taps. A typical dairy may reuse the water three to four times before it is

5-2
