<br />- 'The Town of La Salle instaliedQ demonstration project to show the p~blic water'conserving land-
<br />scape methods and to 'provide a comparison of water requirements for different types of plants,
<br />Comparisons were ''made of three plots: Kentucky bluegrass; fescue sod; and a wildflower mix. For
<br />the full 1993 growing season, thefescue sod used 23.5% less than the bluegrass sod. .Each of the,
<br />plots are approximate"ty'the same size as an average residential lot. The approximate savings thai a
<br />homeowner could have received,' if he/she had q fescu~ lawn, would have been $38.42 per year.

<br />The City of Loveland conducted indoor water use assessments and provided pluf!lbing'retrofit devices
<br />to Single family homes, Between October 1992 and Ja~uary 1993,580 homes panicipated in the pro-
<br />ject. The project was dfsigned to red~ce indoor wat.er use and analyze the;effect of the retrofit
<br />devices. It was found,ih(ltihe higher thewpter use, the higher the percent savi~gs from the retrofit
<br />devices. The estimated wqterreduction due to the retrofit devices in the audit group was 19.9 per, '
<br />(ent, ljithe entire population installed retrofit devic(s, the estimated water reduction for the popula-

<br />The Northwest Colorado Council of Governments developed a specialized computer planizing tool to
<br />assist resoft-c~f1!muriities-in the dev~lppment of water consen;ation plans an~ projects. Th'e plannit:!g
<br />toql was a computerized spread sheet that stores information on..w~ter consumption,- water serviCe
<br />data, financial data, and allows' compdrison' and evaluation of different water conservation 'options.

<br />San MiguetCounty, in'pannership with the 'Telluride Institute, produced a 20-page guide concern-
<br />ing water issues. in the upper,San,MigueIRiver basin. Approximately 9,000 guides were distrib'uted.
<br />The confer,ence and water conservation exhibit were'held at the 1992 "[deas Festival" in Telluride
<br />on July 25, 1992. This, eVent was free to the community. . Approximately 75 people attended with a
<br />strong showing of regiona~-decision mpkers a.~d comm" unity leaders. .
