The Planning Commission would like to express their full support of the grant proposal being presented to you by our City staff. We are very interested in the implementation of water conservation practices in the city related information, and public Dpen space. Particularly of interest to us is the incorporation of xeriscape concepts in I andscape design for the communi ty. We have the opportunity, as a Planning Commission, to provide input into the types of landscapes that are constructed, and we plan to encourage the use of xeriscape. We are in the process of developing landscape guidelines for the City, and have asked that City staff develop policies for the promotion of xeriscape, as well as provide information to the community on the types of plant materials and methodology that can be utilized. I feel that the proposed xeriscape playground and demonstration garden will nDt only be an aesthetic and functional asset to the community, but can help to educate us as to what xeriscape is rather than the so often conjured up images of "zeroscape".
