Vail Valley Consolidated Water District
Water Conservation Master Plan

April 15, 1996
Page 9

F. Dissemination of information regarding water use efficiency
measures, including public education, customer water use
audits, and water.saving demonstrations

1. Purpose

The ultimate success of water conservation programs depends upon the actions of the
people who use the water. Development of a conservation ethic through public
awareness and education is therefore necessary to the overall success of this, or any
other conservation program. Making information available to the public regarding the
reasons for water conservation and the available methods of conservation will help to
foster such a conservation ethic.

2. Programs

a) The District periodically distributes conservation information through mailings
and other means including news releases, newspaper and radio public service
announcements, and seminars. In 1995, this program included a mailing to
distribute conservation materials and information to commercial water users and
the distribution of education material and information about outdoor water use
restrictions to all customers. This type of program will continue on a year-to-year
basis and will be refmed from time-to-time as needed to maintain interest levels.

b) For the past five years during National Drinking Water Week, the District has
conducted a water conservation education program in service area elementary and
middle schools. This program includes a the use of bumper stickers and art to
promote water conservation. This program will be continued and modified as
needed on a year-to-year basis.

c) The District has established a seminar series to inform customers about water
const:rvati9n techniques that focuses ~m low water-use landscapi!!&~ This program u
will be continued and modified as needed on a periodic basis.

d) In cooperation with the Avon branch of the Eagle Valley Public Library, a "water
conservation shelf' has been established in the resource section of the library. The
District will continue to maintain and update this information on a regular basis.

e) During the past year, the District has disseminated water conservation information
through the use of on hold messages and information stations at supermarkets. In
addition, the District is working with the Vail Alpine Garden Foundation to jointly
sponsor public information programs about water resource issues and the need for
water conservation.
