<br />Water Conservation approaches <br /> <br />The first approach to water conservation with in the city ,should be the city <br />itself. A look at how city parks and city properties are irrigated, should be the first <br />assessment. Lead by example, would be a good approach to per sue. <br /> <br />Potential Areas where conservation can be <br /> <br />A. Metering- All accounts within the city are metered at this time. <br /> <br />B. Water Rate Structures- Current rate structure implemented July 2000 <br />with completion of the water meter project. A review of the rate structure <br />could be done on a set timetable. <br /> <br />.c. Water Re-use- Waste Water Plant at this time only facility to benefit <br />from re-use. <br /> <br />D. Existing codes do not enforce the use of low flow plumbing fixtures, <br />But the new fixtures are low flow per national codes. <br /> <br />E. Efficient irrigation practices- Automatic sprinkler systems are <br />Promoted by the city as an efficient irrigation practice. All city facilities <br />At this time use automatic sprinkler systems. <br /> <br />F. Education pulic awareness- Although the city at this time has no <br />Formal program of its own, there is much information available through <br />The local extension office and public library. The local schools have <br />Programs that promote water conservation. <br /> <br />G. The city does encourage the use of mulch for bedding plants, and <br />Does provide it free of charge to city residents. <br />
