J
I
I

Incentives, including rebates

Measure 16: Offer water-saving devices to residents, cost-shared.

DESCRIPTION

TARGET
TIME FRAME
STAFF
SAVINGS

.1

Sell customers a kit oflow-flow showerhead, faucet aerators, toilet flapper
and dye tablets to detect toilet leaks. The cost would be divided between
the City and the customer. This would be a five-year project, with a goal
of 300 homes per year, 1,500 total.

Residential indoor water use for homes built before 1994

1997 - 2001

Water & Power

If all devices were installed, water savings could be significant. Using data
from our water audit project, a customer could save an average of IS per-
cent of their indoor water use by doing a complete retrofit. Based on an av-
erage indoor water use of 6,500 gallons per month, each home could save
975 gallons per month. For 300 homes, this means a savings of292,500
gallons per month or 3,510,000 gallons per year. Over five years, the an-
nual savings could be 17,550,000 gallons per year. To evaluate water sav-
ings, a follow-up survey could estimate how many devices were installed.

May 1996

54

Water Conservation Plan
