These services are provided <br />by City staff free of charge to the public, <br /> <br />Parks Department begins experimenting with water conservative turf blends, These <br />efforts have been expanded and continue to the present. Replacement of ineffIcient <br />irrigation systems is well underway and continues to the present. <br /> <br />A water rate study is conducted for the City by Black & Veatch, resulting in a change to a <br />flat rate of $2,24 per 1000 gallons for businesses and residents, <br /> <br />1994 Parks Department has its first year as a fully metered department and measures nearly 39 <br />million gallons of water usage, <br /> <br />Roadside xeriscape plans are utilized in several locations throughout the City, <br /> <br />1995 Two demonstration xeriscape gardens are added to the list of City gardens. <br /> <br />High school students go into the elementary school system and teach various water <br />related topics, including water conservation, to younger students. This program is <br />ongoing, <br /> <br />Golden becomes a fully metered city, <br /> <br />1996 Kinney Run Town Homes begins retrofitting existing landscape to xeriscape design as do <br />several local businesses and residences, <br /> <br />The design and development of two more xeriscape city gardens are scheduled for <br />completion by the end of this year <br /> <br />Department of Public Works Utilities Division steps up focus on efforts to minimize <br />potential water waste through leaks within the potable water distribution system, <br /> <br />Xeriscape design is being considered in the overall design of an 18 hole golf course that <br />is planned to be built in Golden in the near future, Ground water and run off water <br />stored in detention ponds are being considered as alternative options to irrigating the <br />course with potable water, <br /> <br />Golden begins long term plan to construct the 1500 acre foot Guanella Reservoir. <br /> <br />-8- <br />
