The meter <br />reading, repair/calibration and meter purchases are approximately 2% of the budget. <br /> <br />Leak Repair and Maintenance <br /> <br />The City of Englewood is making:a large effort to reduce the amount ofleakage to O. The City <br />has funded the upgrading and replacement of older deteriorated water mains. This is possible <br />through a capital improvement program which during the next 10 years is expected to spend $ <br />$500,000 on water system upgrades. <br /> <br />1. The City water department performs leak surveys which include pressure drops, surface water <br />complaints and investigation of dirty water complaints. <br /> <br />2, The City's maintenance crews respond as soon as possible to reports of actual or detected <br />leaks. They assess each situation individually by making the appropriate shutoff to isolate the leak <br />and reduce the volume oflost water. <br /> <br />3. Leak detection and repair records for 1995 were as follows: <br />16 water main breaks <br />21 service line leaks or potential leaks detected <br />37 leaks or potential leaks repaired <br />In the past five years the repair bistol)' of the City is as follows: <br /> <br />1995 <br />16 <br /> <br />1994 <br />18 <br /> <br />1993 <br />24 ' <br /> <br />1992 <br />20 <br /> <br />1991 <br />23 <br /> <br />The City has a adopted a systematic repair and replacement program to upgrade its water system <br />and avoid leaks. In the past three'years, the City averages about 450 feet of new water main <br />installed. The City is also replaci!lg open ditches which are used for irrigation with pipe. The <br />largest of these projects is the piping of the City Ditch through Englewood. To date the City has <br />completed 8,000 feet of the City Ditch with about 12,000 reet ~till tobe-eompletedc-'- -- - -- - - <br /> <br />The City is also converting its sedimentation reservoirs to a covered floxed system. This greatly <br />reduces evaporation in the water ,treatment process savillg 2% of the reservoirs 80 million gallons. <br /> <br />Plumbing Code <br /> <br />The City of Englewood's Plumbing Code requires water saving devices for all new construction. <br />These water conserving devices include a maximum 1.6 gallon per flush toilets, 2.5 gpm faucets <br />and 2.5 gpm shower heads, <br /> <br />Englewood Conservation Plan <br /> <br />Page 7 <br />
